Trying To Quit Texting While Driving?

Try These Apps…

If you’re on the road, the Smartphone is your lifeline to the outside world: It allows you to be in constant communication with clients, employees, family and friends. But that invisible tether can also be dangerous, especially when you’re behind the wheel. studies has show headset cell phone use is not substantially safer than handset use. In other words, put the phone down.

Despite the staggering statistics, some of us just find it too difficult to disconnect, even for a short while. So if that compulsion to check your phone, return a call or respond to a text or email gets too powerful, here are some tech tools that can help:

AT&T DRIVE MODE:

(Android and Blackberry)

When enabled and the vehicle is moving at least 25 miles an hour, this free app sends a customizable auto-reply message to incoming texts, letting people know you’re behind the wheel and will reply when you’re safely off the road.

DRIVE SAFELY:

(iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and Blackberry)

Instead of silencing incoming texts and emails, DriveSafe.ly reads them out loud in real time and sends an auto-response. There’s a free version as well as upgraded monthly paid plans. The business plan, at $7.99 a month, comes with SSL encryption to keep data secure

SAFE CELL:

(iPhone and Android)

Activated when your car is traveling over 5 miles an hour, the SafeCellapp intercepts calls and texts before they reach you and sends an auto-response that says you’re driving and can’t be reached. The service, which costs $11.99, along with a recurring annual fee, also uses your phone’s built-in GPS to notify you of state and local laws about using your phone while driving.

DO NOT DISTRUB:

This built-in feature on Apple devices allows you to silence all calls, texts and alerts when you’re on the road. The catch is that you have to remember to manually turn on the feature when you get in the car and switch it off when you’ve arrived at your destination.

DRIVING MODE:

(Windows, coming soon)

The new Windows phone will feature a Driving Mode similar to Apple’s Do Not Disturb, It will allow you to silence all incoming calls. The feature can also be configured to automatically send out a reply to say that you’re driving, but it won’t block outgoing calls and texts.
So, whether you utilize these tools, or simply lock your phone in your glove compartment, always remember to keep your eyes on the road.
